Summer Essentials

11:26 AM

So Memorial Day weekend is this weekend y'all!  I've always viewed Memorial Day as the official start of summer (even though in Texas we start swimming at the end of April).  I don't have any super amazing plans (the in-laws are moving, so that's keeping us pretty booked up) but we will definitely squeeze in some swimming and some fun summer treats!

In honor of the beginning of summer I've compiled my summer essentials list.

1) Swim suit!  Obviously you can't swim in your clothes.  Well you could, but that would be a little weird.  I think it's important to have a swim suit you really love.  We go swimming almost every single day.  My criteria for a good suit is that it covers my tummy, cause I definitely have a tummy, and that it is a cute style. This was my choice this year:

I love the teal and white combo.

2) Tote.  We haul SO much junk back and forth to the pool   I don't even want to talk about how much crap I have to carry around.  I needed a tote that could carry all the kids toys, snacks, towels, diapers etc.   I wanted it to be mesh, though, cause there is always wet stuff in my bag.  I found this baby at Target for $10!  I've used it a few times and I LOVE it.  It has a nice pocket on the side for my phone and keys so that they don't get mixed in with the toys.

3) Sandals.  To each their own in the category.  For the pool I do $2.50 Old Navy flip flops, but around town I like a little bit more style.  I got these babies on clearance last year and I love them.  The gold makes every outfit just a little cuter!

4) Tank tops.  I pretty much spend my summer at the gym and at the pool.  The other day I was wandering Target (which is a pretty dangerous hobby, let me tell ya) and I stumbled on these adorable tank tops for $6 each!  I just can't get over the fun patterns!

5) Maxi dresses!  I have already expressed my deep love for Maxi dresses, and I just want to reiterate-- they pretty much rock my world.  I love being able to throw on a dress in the morning, brush my hair, put on my make-up and run out the door.  I always feel super cute and put-together, but it takes zero effort.  Plus they are so stinkin' comfy!

(no this is not a flattering pic, but I couldn't find another one of this dress :)

So what are your top 5 favorite summer must-haves?

    1. I actually got one at Walmart that is adjustable, which I know is kind of a weird place, but I like it a lot. The one in the pic is from Gap and it's pretty long! I'm almost 5'8" and it's almost too long on me.
