Girl Talk

9:11 PM

Like many newlywed couples, right after we got married, we were essentially hermits.

We both were in school, living this new life, trying to figure out how to be spouses, working, and finally living in the same city (read more about our whirlwind love story here on my blog). I was 19 and it was a LOT to adjust to! Not to mention, now that I finally had my man around, all I wanted to do was hang out with him basically 24/7.

I remember about 4 months after we got married I got together with my old roommates and we went to dinner and I was in heaven. We talked about anything and everything it was FANTASTIC! Don't get me wrong. Trevor is amazing at talking to me and listening. Fabulous. But there's just something about talking to the girls that keeps us sane.

I also talk to my sister (co-author of this blog!) almost daily. We talk about whatever we've done that day, or pick apart her kids' sleep schedules, or discuss the funny kids in my swimming lesson class, and I promise it's the best therapy a girl could ask for.

Every time I go home, I get together with my best friends from high school. We could talk for hours. I think amidst all the thoughts that go on in a girl's head all day long, the best thing can sometimes be to just let our mouths run for a while now and then without fear of judgement.

I will never again question the value of a good girl vent session. Also, I have finally accepted that girls and boys are different. Sometimes I think all we need is someone to say, "I know exactly how you feel!" without offering their amazing solution to the problem. We need confirmation that we are not, in fact, crazy and that someone else (and most likely everyone else) in the world has experienced something similar.

Let's hear it for the girls!
Hope your weekend was wonderful!

  1. Get together with my high school friends is always a lot of fun. It always brings a smile to my face whenever I have to a get together with my girlies and reminisce about the past and talk about what's going on in our day to day lives.

Actually, I just talked to one of my best friends on the phone yesterday for THREE hours (we obviously lost track of time). :) Very cute blog!! And thanks so much for your sweet comment...each one always makes my day.

  8. Amen!! Sometimes I get butt hurt when I tell my husband a story and he doesn’t sound as amused as one of my girlfriends would... I KNOW that’s why God gave us girlfriends to keep us sane :)

  10. That's how I came up with the name of my blog. Girls setting around a table eating good food, talking about fashion, kids, life, and food. It's the basis behind the whole shabang!
